Automated Testing: How AI Accelerates and Improves Test Coverage

Can you imagine a typical Monday in the life of a DevOps / QA engineer…?
You open Slack and right there… red notifications from the pipeline.
Jenkins or GitHub Actions is lit up like a Christmas tree. You take a quick look…18 tests are red. You immediately start wondering what broke this time?
The designer changed the CSS class of the “Buy now” button from btn-primary to button--primary-accent, or the backend added a mandatory consentVersion parameter to an endpoint.
Or someone moved the product card 4 pixels to the left and the visual regression test went crazy.
Sound familiar?
You spend the whole day fighting with XPath locators, updating selectors, fixing assertions, and in the meantime someone keeps asking
“…when will it be green again?”.
You grit your teeth and mutter,
“as soon as I find that damn disappearing div wrapper”.
Fourteen hours later, the tests finally pass… until the next hotfix or rebranding. And the cycle repeats.
But that time could be used much more effectively — say, building new features instead of endlessly battling locators.
Now let’s look at the other version of reality — the automated one.
After implementing true self-healing AI-based tools
(such as Mabl, Testim by Tricentis, or Playwright / Cypress with increasingly powerful extensions), failures don’t wait for you to notice them.
They are automatically analyzed based on the fact that something has changed — not only in the code, but in the DOM, in styles, in layout. Sometimes even differences in endpoint behaviour are detected.
After each pipeline run, the AI analyzes the diff, compares old vs new screenshots / structure, finds replacements for broken locators (CSS/XPath)
and — most importantly — automatically updates the tests.
No need to open the editor. No need to click “record again”. It just… works.
Real-life example
At an e-commerce client, a fairly large checkout rebranding happens every 6–8 weeks. Almost every time, 60–75% of payment and order-finalization tests fail.
Before introducing AI-powered tools, the team (3 DevOps + 2 QA) spent a total of 1.5–2 days fixing them — that’s 12–16 working hours.
At hourly rates of 170–220 PLN, the direct cost of one such incident was 2,200–3,500 PLN.
And that’s only the direct cost — not counting delayed releases and stress.
After implementing a platform with effective self-healing, the same rebranding (changed button, moved fields, new labels, slightly modified consent flow) → takes about 35–55 minutes from the first failed run.
